Mark Bitz creates algorithmic and fractal art from systems that can be defined but never fully predicted. Each work begins with a mathematical idea—recursion, symmetry, iteration, interference—and develops through close observation and deliberate refinement.

The process moves between precision and discovery. Parameters are tuned, palettes are shaped, and a viewpoint is chosen from an enormous field of possibilities. The resulting images feel at once constructed and organic: evidence of an underlying order that remains just beyond view.

“The algorithm is not the finished work. It is a landscape—and the art is deciding where to stand.”

The final compositions are designed for sustained attention. From across a room they read as luminous structures; up close, dense layers of fine detail reveal new patterns, echoes, and relationships.

  1. Define the systemA visual rule establishes the work’s mathematical DNA.
  2. Explore the fieldThousands of iterations reveal moments worth developing.
  3. Compose & refineColor, scale, and structure are tuned into a singular image.
  4. Translate to printThe work is prepared to preserve detail, depth, and luminosity.
